UGC (user-generated content)

What is UGC (user-generated content)?

UGC, or user-generated content, is content — usually video or photo — created by a creator for a brand to use in the brand’s own marketing, rather than to be posted from the creator’s own account.

What does UGC mean in influencer marketing?

A UGC deal typically pays for the content itself, not for reach or posting — the creator delivers raw or edited files and the brand decides where and how to run them, including as paid ads.

What should creators watch out for with UGC deals?

  • Confirm usage rights and duration in writing — "UGC" contracts vary widely on whether the brand can use the content forever, in paid ads, or only organically.
  • Price UGC separately from organic posts; content-only deals are usually a flat production fee, not a rate based on your follower count.
  • Clarify how many revision rounds are included before you start filming.
